Last week marked the start of the winter planting season and it was the UK’s largest annual tree celebration, National Tree Week (26 November – 4 December) where thousands of conservationists and volunteers come together to address biodiversity and tackle climate change.

So, the team at EthOss got involved by planting some trees in their local town through a volunteer programme organised by YORGreen CIC. And the team of 5 managed to plant an impressive 300 trees over the period of a day.

YORGreen CIC states that “woodland cover in the UK today is among the lowest in Europe at 13.2%, in England it’s only 10%.” The company works in partnership with the White Rose Forest Strategy which aims to improve the quantity and access of woodlands ensuring that no household is further than 500 Metres from wooded spaces by 2050.

The Director of YORGreen CIC, Ian Butterfield, who assisted the EthOss volunteers said:

“Please pass on my thanks to all the staff from EthOss for a very enjoyable and productive day planting at Kildwick. The quality of planting was excellent and it was a pleasure to work alongside such friendly, enthusiastic people.”

EthOss’ Marketing Manager, Alexandra Holdcroft commented:
“Since EthOss was established in 2013, the company has continuously put sustainability at the forefront of its systems and actions. In 2022 we chose some ambitious goals and have been able to accelerate this activity with tree planting being one of many. We’ve made a few changes at the Head Office including the installation of a heat pump, a smart heating control system and motion movement sensors to control lighting.

“The team thoroughly enjoyed spending the day out in the Yorkshire countryside last week and getting stuck into the project, albeit the British weather this time of year. We look forward to working with YORGreen CIC on future projects.”
